Was life really simpler in earlier days or is it easier now? There is no correct answer to this question. Every person will have their own theory as to what would be a perfect life. But one thing they can agree upon is that the digital generation has arrived and whether you like it or not you have to change with the times. So is this change for the better or for the worse?
Consider the fact that about 70% of the students surveyed, reported that they use the internet for their homework. Does this make them too dependent on computer or just smart? I believe that this generation has got a privilege that the earlier generations did not have. From being able to search google for research topics to going to random websites to idle away the time, the internet has certainly proven to alleviate problems of many people. But the real problem arises when the aid becomes a drug to the user. Instead of using it as an auxiliary service, people call upon it whenever they can.
Web sites like Wikipedia & Quora have become the bible for so many lost souls that they have forgotten that these websites get their data from humans only and not all facts are correct. The generation, however, is not dumb, they are merely lazy, Or made lazy.
Here is when the factor of critical analysis comes into play. You can learn a lot from the internet. I, for example, derive all the data I need for quizzes, news, facts, etc. from Google and it helps in the long run as well. But that doesn’t mean that I believe everything I read. Compare and decant the facts and choose the relevant ones.
When the time comes, the internet combined with the brain can ultimately bear great fruits. So many people reference the internet for their speeches and works and combine them with their creativity to create an excellent ultimate product. This shows that this technology driven era can be a boon or bane for people, it all depends on the data you derive and how you bring it into play.
To conclude, the Internet is prodigious, and the information you can find on it is in abundance, but finding the relevant information is very important as is combining it with your work seamlessly. Relying on it completely will not only make you much more dependent but will also kill your creative thinking. To quote in the words of Jack White “ Nowadays, everybody assumes, when they wake up in the morning, if they have a question, it will get answered. Because they have the internet. No matter what the question is, someone will answer their question.”
